The One Man Band
Dec 2020-Feb 2022
On December 18th of 2020 Graysin played his last show in San Antonio as a local musician and drove off into the unknown. He had spent the last months of 2020 selling everything he owned. Fully committing to his music. He drove off into the American South and became a touring musician. Spending weekdays living in his truck inconspicuously in parking lots, showering at planet fitness', and spending his weekends playing shows in new towns and cities that he would have never otherwise seen. Although, this does sound like the dream of many aspiring musicians words cannot fully describe how hard of a life it is. Without the southern hospitality of so many great Americans none of this would have been possible. Graysin owes his life and success to the kindness of these strangers.
After Graysin had completed two short tours and returned to Texas he began to ponder his future. He realized the success and pay in the South was significantly greater than in Texas. So Graysin decided that he would reverse the roles of the territories. He would now not return after the next tour but rather live in the South and tour back to visit Texas. On June 13th of 2021 Graysin played his Farewell Rooftop Concert at his favorite bar in San Antonio, Joint Base Saloon, and once again rode off into the sunset.
If you want to play the blues you have to live the blues. And this rings true for Graysin's journey as inflation started to take effect especially in food and fuel the two biggest expenses and necessities for this traveling musician. It began to put a stranglehold on Graysin's finances and he found himself with $5 in his pocket living in a parking lot in Morristown, TN. Graysin just prayed and believed in his destiny. Little did he know the blessings he was about to receive were right around the corner.
On October 10th 2021 Graysin met Kayulah at a show at Screwball's in Sevierville, TN. Although, he had found love and was living the dream of a touring musician no one knew the darkness and pain behind Graysin's smile. Graysin had stopped buying food and was only eating food he received from playing music, or cans and doggy bags people donated to him. While in survival mode he was also trying to nurture a new relationship with nothing to offer but his heart. To make things worse Graysin had a winter tour coming up to Texas that would keep him away from his girl for over a month.
Unfortunately, things got even worse when the Texas tour was a complete failure. Multiple cancellations and low support from fans put Graysin in an even darker place. He was living at Joint Base Saloon in San Antonio TX when he came to peace with death. He looked inside himself and only saw the bluesman that God destined to take this journey. He said to himself, "I might lose the girl and I might lose my life but if that's what God wants then you'll find my body on the roadside but my story will live on."
